Frequently asked questions

Below you will find answers for the most frequently asked questions. If you need further assistance however, please e-mail mup@manchester.ac.uk

Who can obtain online access?

Online access will be available to institutional subscribers of the journals. Personal and other low cost subscription rates do not allow for online access.

Do we have to pay for online access?

No - as long as you are an institution and have a valid hard copy subscription with us online access is free.

Do we have to provide you with an IP (Internet Protocol) address and be issued with a password?

To gain access to a journal you have subscribed to, as long as you are an institution, all you have to do is provide us with your IP address/address range. Once you have done this all members of your institution will be able to gain access to the journal online as long as it is via a terminal located on the subscribed site. Once we have your IP address you, or anyone else accessing the journal from your institution, will not have to fill in any forms, enter any passwords or provide us with any further information. You will gain automatic access every time you visit the journal online.

Who can access the journals online?

All institutions who currently, or subsequently take out a subscription, will have free online access providing they have provided us with their IP (Internet Protocol) address.

We have an institutional subscription, who in our institution is entitled to online access?

Much as the hard copy of the journal is made available to every one on campus, so is the online version. Providing the journals are accessed via terminals on your site and under the control of the subscribing institution, all members (employees, faculty, staff and students) of the institution are entitled to access.

I have a current subscription to one of your journals, how do I gain access to the online version?

If you are an institution and currently have a subscription to one of our journals you will continue to have free online access to the journals as long as your paper subscription in maintained. To give you continued access all you have to do is provide us with the IP (Internet Protocol) address for your institution. (Libraries should liase with their computer support staff or their chosen Internet service provider regarding IP addresses.) To gain immediate access after the trial period, you should e-mail your institution's IP address, along with your name, the journal you subscribe to and your institution's physical address, to Ben Stebbing at ben.stebbing@manchester.ac.uk
